The short version
PatreonTV is a native Apple TV app that talks directly to Patreon. Apart from a tiny pairing service used once at sign-in (described below), it has no backend. It does not send your data to us. It does not collect analytics on what you watch.
What data PatreonTV touches
Your Patreon session
To sign in, your Apple TV shows a pairing code and you sign in to Patreon on your phone or computer. The session cookie Patreon issues passes through our pairing service exactly once: it is encrypted at rest, kept for at most ten minutes, and deleted the moment your Apple TV picks it up. After that it lives only in the tvOS Keychain on your Apple TV and never leaves your device except when the app calls the Patreon API on your behalf. We keep no copy and cannot access your account afterwards.
Data fetched from Patreon
While you use the app, PatreonTV requests posts, creator information, memberships, and media URLs from patreon.com. This data is displayed on your Apple TV and held only in memory or in an on-device cache for performance. It is not shared with any third party.
Playback progress
Playback position for videos you watch is stored on-device using tvOS
UserDefaults. This powers the "Continue Watching" shelf
and never leaves your Apple TV.
Media playback
Patreon-hosted video is streamed from Patreon's video hosting provider (currently Mux). Playback URLs are signed by Patreon and delivered directly to your Apple TV; PatreonTV does not proxy or intercept the stream. Mux may collect standard streaming diagnostics as described in Mux's privacy policy.
External embeds
Posts containing YouTube or Vimeo embeds link out to those services. When you open one of those posts, PatreonTV does not stream the content itself; if you choose to watch, the relevant third-party app is opened. Their own privacy policies apply once you leave PatreonTV.
What we don't do
- We do not retain your data on any server. The pairing service holds your encrypted session cookie for minutes at most, then deletes it.
- We do not track which posts you view, watch, or interact with.
- We do not use analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or tracking pixels.
- We do not sell, share, or rent your data — because we don't have your data.
Crash reports
If PatreonTV crashes and you have opted in to sharing diagnostic data with Apple, Apple may deliver an anonymized crash report to us via App Store Connect. These reports contain no personal information and no Patreon session data.
Children
PatreonTV is not directed at children under 13. NSFW-marked Patreon campaigns are filtered from the app.
Changes
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date at the top will change and — for meaningful changes — we'll surface a notice in the app.
